Pride and Prejudice Caption Contests

200 Years of Pride and Prejudice at Elegance of Fashion

And what would 200 years of Pride and Prejudice be without a caption contest? Of course I had to hold a caption contest!

Contest: Guess Their Thoughts

Old-Fashioned Charm

Here at Elegance of Fashion, the Jane Austen Birthday Assembly will start off with a contest: the Guess Their Thoughts Contest. This is a new contest that I recently thought up of for something new and different for Elegance of Fashion.

Instructions:
  1. Pick a segment of a dialogue (a couple of lines so that the entry makes sense) from a Jane Austen novel or adaptation.
  2. Take one of the characters and write down what they might be thinking in modern-speak.
  3. Leave a comment saying with novel/adaptation it came from and the entry
  4. Entries will be accepted until Sunday, December 16th (Jane Austen's Birthday). Voting will commence on Monday, December 17th and last until the 20th when the Jane Austen Birthday Assembly closes.
Rules
  • You can submit up to three.
  • As always, keep it clean and family friendly.

Examples:
Mr. Darcy: It must be agreeable to her to live within easy distance of her family.
Elizabeth: Easy distance? It's nearly fifty miles!
Mr. Darcy: What is fifty miles of good road? Yes, an easy distance.
Elizabeth: (thinking) Oh sure, you've never had to travel with my family.

Mr. Darcy: You would not wish to be always near Longbourn, I think.

Elizabeth: (Thinking) What, like your family's so perfect that you always want to live near Rosings?

Period Drama Trivia Challenge

Want to test your knowledge of period drama trivia? Want to have a chance to get a button to display on your blog?

This is kind of a mini event going on at Elegance of Fashion that will last for one week. This is the Period Drama Trivia Challenge, a 50 question trivia quiz. Anyone can play, but few will win.

How to Play (Please Read)
  • Answer as many of the questions as you can in a comment on this post. I will not publish your answers until the event is over. I will comment your score and which questions you missed in this post once I have graded your answers. I suggest subscribing this this post so you don't forget to see how you scored.
  • Players may answer as many times as they want, so if you want to guess, you can.
  • You can also split up your answers in multiple comments if you wish (for instance, you can answer 10 now, 10 later, 10 even later, etc.)
  • The top three winners will receive a button 200 x 200 pixels. With your answers (or in a separate comment if you forgot to put it with your answers), say if you would like your name/username or blog name on your button and which character from a period drama you would like pictured.
  • I will accept answers until Tuesday, October 23rd at 11:55 PM Central Time.

Vote On Captions!

Now that the submissions for captions are now closed, now comes the poll! I got a very good response on submissions for the caption contest!

So, remember what the picture was...

Which captions are your favorites?
  1. "I am an absolute scourge of spiders! Woe betide any spider who ventures into my society!"
  2. "All of Mr. Fife's deputies must learn his special salute, Miss Woodhouse. It's mandatory."
  3. Emma: Farm boy, fetch me that pitcher.
    Elton: As you wish.
  4. Elton: As always, Miss Woodhouse, you preside over everything else in existence. I will guard this scroll with my life.
  5. Elton: The only power that I can see at present, madmoiselle, is the power of your beauty.
Emma: Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Mr Elton.
    Elton: This beholder is enchanted.
  6. Mr. Elton: "You see, Emma something is not quiet right up stairs with Harriet."
  7. "One must always use the little gray cells, you know, Miss Woodhouse!"
  8. Elton: Don't look now, but I've a feeling we're being WATCHED.
  9. Mr. Elton-- The discoverer of Treasure Planet would go down in history as one of the grestest explorers! He'd be able to experience... Whoa! What just happened?
  10. Mr. Knightly: He may sepak sentimentally but he will behave rationally. Why is he hitting himself with that?
  11. Emma: A soldier? A brain surgeon? A king?
Mr. Knightley: Oh Emma, you've never been good at Charades!
  12. Elton: I'm off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz!
  13. Elton: Superglue, Miss Woodhouse? How droll.
    Emma & Knightley: Muwhahahahahaha!
  14. Mr. E: Your Majesty, I would gladly take a bullet for you.
Emma: Oh how brave, most interns don't even want to fetch me my tea.
  15. Emma: Aren't you so adorable?! I mean, is it just me or is he adorably cute?
Knightley: For me, two words come to mind--delusional and weirdo. And also, goofy. Just goofy.
  16. Mr. Elton: Oh Emma, I have this itch on my forehead, I can't stop scratching it!
Emma: My, how exhilarating! Is it a result of your feverish love for Miss Smith?
And, because I'm feeling generous ("I'm the soul of generosity!"), I'm going to make the poll so you can select multiple answers! So select as many as you like!

You have one week to vote!

Caption Contest (With Poll Coming Soon!)

I'd thought I would host a little caption contest this week! I've downloaded a new program that allows me to take decent screenshots at a fast rate, so I can take more screenshots that I could before.

Rules:

  1. You may submit up to three different captions. Simply comment your caption(s) in this post. You can put them all in one comment or in separate comments if you're coming up with captions separately.
  2. Keep the captions clean. I also reserve the right to refuse any captions I deem inappropriate.
  3. I will be accepting captions until Saturday (9/15/12) at 11:55 PM CST. I will then post a poll for the best caption (but don't neglect the regular poll either!). The poll will last for one week. I will announce the winner when the poll is over.
  4. Have fun!

Here is the picture. It's a little blurry in spots (thanks, Mr. Elton!), but you get the idea.

And don't forget Mr. Knightley in the window (but it's not required to include him in the caption, but he might be useful in the caption(s)!)

I can't wait to see what you all come up with!
