A Victorian Christmas (Lots of Pictures)

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!
In beauty green will always grow
Through summer sun and winter snow.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!

Hope that everyone is well as the Christmas Season begins! Over the weekend, my parents and I went were out of town and we went to the home of a senator from the 1860s. Each year, they decorate the house with all sorts of Christmas trees and other Christmas decorations. The house has a lot of donated period furnishings too, so I spent a good part of the time there simply taking pictures. Here are some of the pictures! Some of them are of pieces of furniture in the house and might not necessarily be Christmas decorations.

One of the smaller Christmas trees.

Love the piano they had there! It was so nicely decorated with lace and Christmas decorations.

I love this lamp! So pretty!

Tea, anyone?

One of the period sofas.

An organ? Maybe? Some of the keys were damaged on it, but it was nicely decorated on top.

This is the top of a writing desk.

Look! They even have a copy of Emma!

And someone's been reading Little Women! (Appropriate for Christmas)

Needlework basket (with a sampler!)

I really like the edging on the napkin here. It looked like it might have been crocheted.

The dining room

This was the kitchen in the house. Very nice!

The bedrooms were also decorated with Christmas trees.

Love the pattern on the china.

A mini piano? Maybe for younger kids learning how to play the piano?

Bit of a Downton Abbey effect here.

How is everyone doing? Have any plans for Christmas?

 God Bless,
God Bless, Miss Elizabeth Bennet

  1. OOOH EMMA! We were recently visiting an old mansion house, and I was SO excited to see P&P and S&S in a book case! You see, whenever I am places where they have old books I am on a search for JA and that was the first time I ever saw any! Seeing your picture was fun too. :D

I liked the others too, heehee. :) Looks like fun.

    1. I do the exact same thing! Unfortunately, Emma was the only JA book in the house... Oh well...

  3. Oh, how gorgeous! I volunteer at a historic site that decorates in the Victorian fashion, and I simply love this era. I would definately decorate my house this way if I could!

Seriously, how STUNNING!!!! I've always wanted to step back in time to a Victorian house during the Christmas season.

I especially like that beautiful lamp. That lace tablecloth in the dining room is gorgeous, too. Ooh, the staircase! I love staircases like that!

I've awarded you over at my blog: http://thesplendorfalls.blogspot.com/2012/12/awards_6.html
