Book Tag (Yet Another Period Drama Blog)

I found this tag at Yet Another Period Drama Blog about reading books. Now, I'm not that big of a reader, but I do enjoy reading when I get a chance of it. Well, here are my answers!

Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack:
I've tried to, but I found that when I had food by me, I couldn't get much reading done until I finished my food. So in practice, the answer is no.

What is your favourite drink while reading?
Tea... I've become very fond of flowering tea. I like to make a little pot of it and I can have a couple of cups of tea while I read.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Depends on the book. I would never think of marking up my Jane Austen books! But if it's a book that I am indifferent to (or simply do not like) that I am reading for school, then I mark up my books.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmarks. Now, what do I use for bookmarks? Usually a piece of notebook paper folded in half. Now, if the book comes with a little piece of ribbon attached to the spine of the book to use for a book mark, then I'm on cloud nine! :-D

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Fiction, though I will flip through a non-fiction book every so often, but I don't seriously sit down to read a non-fiction book all the way through.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I try to read to the end of a chapter so I know exactly where I stop reading. Now, sometimes life doesn't allow for me to read to the end of a chapter, so if I have to stop where I am, I can but I would prefer not to.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
Not quite, though I have been tempted. Usually I have to put the book somewhere out-of-sight-out-of-mind if the author irritates me... and never pick it up again. After all, why should I waste my time with a book that I don't like when I could be reading one I do like.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
No. Sometimes I try to figure out in what context the word was used and figure it out that way. But if that fails, then eventually I look up the word.

What are you currently reading?
Still trying to read Mansfield Park. I've been on this book too long: I'm such a slow reader and I don't get much time to read. But I really enjoy it.

What is the last book you bought?
I bought a couple of embroidery books recently, but they mostly had patterns in there. But here are the ones I bought.
I bought this book of Chinese patterns. I like Asian artwork, so I thought I would try to embroider it.
Victorian Embroidery patterns (of course!). There were a lot of floral patterns in there that I really want to try.
And this book with 400 different floral motifs. The price was right and there were a lot of patterns in there.

The only issue I have with the Victorian and floral motif books is that they don't suggest any colors or stitches. The Chinese pattern book (to my memory) doesn't recommend any stitches, but it does recommend colors at least.

Do you have a favourite time/place to read?
Not really. Just any place that is quiet and has a comfortable chair and at a time when I have time.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
I'm not against series books, but I mostly read stand alones.

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Jane Austen! I haven't read any other author that I could recommend so much as Jane Austen.

How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)
By order in which I read them. Probably not the best system, but I don't feel like changing it right now. :-P

 God Bless,
God Bless, Miss Elizabeth Bennet
