  1. YES! IT'S BEGUN! Okay, now I'll go back up and see who all is in it. :)

Let's see...I don't know the first two. Then Percy Blakeney totally gets my vote. I don't like Silas Marner very much, but I don't know the other guy. Don't know any poll 4ers, and hated the book Wuthering Heights. Robert Martin! I know him! :) Colonel Brandon! Mr. Darcy! Thank goodness Mr. D isn't against Mr. Knightely. *sighs with relief*

*suddenly panics* I have to choose between Sherlock and Laurie! NOOOOOOOOOO! I think Laurie. I think Sherlock. Help! WHAT?!?!? Prof Bhaer against Westley! Impossible. I think I like Westley better. "Daniel Deronda"...I keep meaning to read that book. I am very attached to Mr. Bingley. Even over Captain Wentworth. Is the man who acted as Thomas Holbrook Emma's father in the 2009 Emma? He looks familiar.

Why is this so hard? Mr. Thornton? Or Gilbert? Probably Gilbert.

I'll bet Darcy or Knightley wins...at least, I sure hope so!

My paragraphs were totally spaced by when I felt one was getting too long. It has no sway by what poll or whatever, if that makes any sense.

  2. Charity U,
I hated Wuthering Heights too. I included Heathcliff because I thought that he was a fairly popular character, but I really disliked him. I tend to dislike Bronte heroes.

Any poll with two Jane Austen heroes would be really hard for me to decide in! The exception might be Captain Wentworth because I don't really like him as much.

Yes, Thomas Holbrook and Emma's father in the 2009 Emma are the same actor. He was also in Wives and Daughters.

  3. Fun fun!!! The only one difficult for me was between Capt. Wentworth and Mr Bingley....but Wentworth is a main guy. ;-) A few polls I didn't vote on, because I didn't know either person. There were one or two polls where, when I only knew one of the people, I didn't like him, so I voted for the other man. ;-)

And Charity, I was so relieved that Mr Knightley and Mr Darcy weren't against each other! That would be disasterous! I was thinking about it earlier! ;-) And I have a feeling one of them is going to win, or Mr. Thornton. Believe it or not, he's quite popular. :P (But really, he'd have a tough time beating a Jane Austen hero.)

  4. Some of these I haven't heard of before, so I don't think I can vote on those polls. I predict Thornton vs Darcy for the final. But I'm rooting for Sherlock all the way! :)

  5. Oh, and is it just me, or was anyone else mad at the end of Lark Rise, season 2? James Dowland was my fave character, and he turned out to be immoral and deceitful. :( So disappointing.

  7. Tasha,
I've never seen Oliver Twist, so I don't have any screenshots from it, but I'll see what I can do!

  8. Tasha,
Adding to my previous comment: now that I think about it, I did remember seeing a black and white version, but I don't remember too much about it.

  9. Marian,
I know how you feel! I was starting to warm up to James Dowland, and then they hit us with his past! And, to make matters worse, he lied right to Dorcas's face!

  10. Oh.my.goodness...this is sooo exciting! Some of these are going to be hard choices! Thankfully, most of my huge favorites are paired with someone I don't care for as much...so far. I know that will change in later rounds. And some of these I'll just have to randomly pick as I'm not familiar with either!
    :{

Thanks for having such a great contest!! :) Also, if anyone is interested, I'm hosting a Disney Blog Party at my blog, nevergrowupdollguide.blogspot.com. :D

I love these blogging events! :D

  11. Melody, I know a lot of girls do love Thornton. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him in finals...I'll watch the movie again someday. :)

EoF, I'm sorry if this comes through twice...something went wrong before. :P If it does, feel free to delete either.

  12. Okay, I'm not sure if my second comment went through. If it did, feel free to delete this one! :)

I just went back and voted. I think the hardest one for me to decide on this time was between Arthur Clennam and Daniel Deronda. After some debating with myself, I finally settled on Arthur, but I really like Daniel's character, too.

    My only other concern is that Mr. Tilney, one of my very favorites, ended up being paired with Sydney Carlton, another great hero of literature. So far Tilney's in the lead. Hopefully he'll make it through to the next round! :{

Can't wait to see the results! :D

  13. Hi!

Just wondering, how do you come up with the pairs of men in each poll?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous,
I assign each character a number, then I go to a random number generator and have it generate numbers. Then I break the numbers off into pairs. That way, I have random sets.

  15. I can't believe it's here! I finished voting for the first tournament yesterday but my computer somehow impeded me from commenting.

At the present, the polls aren't too difficult. I had a harder time with the Heroine Tournament. But I'm afraid that it might turn difficult as the polls narrow down the heroes. There are many heroes that I don't exactly know. Of course, I voted for my favorites such as Mr. Darcy, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Thornton, Sir Percy, Sidney Carton, etc. I had a rather tough time choosing between Laurie and Sherlock. And though I do not highly favor some heroes like Heathcleaff and St. John, I just voted for them since they're the characters I've read of and not their "pair". I didn't vote for the ones I haven't read of yet. Oh, there's just so much to mention about!

Just wondering, is "Pip" in the Great Expectations movie portrayed by Ioan Griffith (how do you spell his name)?

This was another round of absolute fun! I'm excited for the results!

  16. Jemimah,
I think that the Pip that I've pictured is the Ioan Gruffudd version. I've never seen it, but it was the only one I could think of.

  17. Yay! I came back just in time to vote! This is so exciting!
Some of these were very hard to choose between! The hardest for me was Arthur Clennam & Daniel Deronda but Sherlock Holmes & Laurie was also tricky.
I was a bit surprised and totally pleased to see John Chivery, Robert Martin and Sinjon Rivers on this list, yay! Wonderful choices here, I can't wait to see how the voting progresses!

  18. Yikes! I got in on this late! :-)

I'm rooting for Sir Percy Blakeney all the way!!!!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. My vote goes for Sir Percy. He is the only hero in this entire list, just saying'. ;) ;) hehe So yes - Percy FTW!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. OH my - but I didn't see Sydney Carton and LAURIE! o.O

    ReplyDelete
  21. Henry Tilney is leading Sydney Carton???? How is this even POSSIBLE?? Vote for Sydney!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. How is it possible? Why, Mr Tilney is a Jane Austen hero, that's how! ;-)
