If you have a nomination, please comment.

I have a suggestion: there's Charles Darnay from Tale of Two Cities. I've never read it, but what do you think?

  1. Charles Darnay is nice, but I'd love to nominate Mr. Tinlney from Northanger Abbey and Mr. Knightley from Emma (my two favorite Austen heroes). :)

  4. I'm sorry I haven't suggested any yet, I've been meaning to. Besides all of the Jane Austen heroes (which I'm sure you had on your list already) I'll suggest Mr. John Thornton of North & South, Roger Hamley of Wives & Daughters, Dr. Frank Harrison of Cranford, Arthur Clennam of Little Dorrit, Nicholas Nickelby, Mr. Jack Worthing (Earnest) from The Importance of Being Earnest, Dick Dewey of Under The Greenwood Tree, Daniel Deronda, John Harmon & Eugene Wrayburn of Our Mutual Friend, Gabriel Oak of Far From The Madding Crowd and John Ridd of Lorna Doone. Any Charles Dickens or Elizabeth Gaskell hero should definitely be in the running. I'm sure you probably have many of these on the list already but I figured I'd just mention them. Looking forward to this tournament!

  7. If you want to do A Tale Of Two Cities you need to use Sidney Carton as he is the true hero of the book. I think he would be a great candidate.

  8. beast'sbelle,
I've got Mr. Tilney and Mr. Knightly in the original 40.

    Alayna,
For this tournament, I wanted to do just fictional characters, but maybe for another tournament, I'll do historical figures.

    Miss Laurie,
I've got most of the Jane Austen heroes. I'm not too familiar with Mansfield Park, so I didn't include Edmund Bertram in there. I've got John Thornton, Roger Hamley, Dr. Harrison, Arthur Clennam, and Daniel Deronda in there.

    Tasha,
I didn't want to include Tip from Little Dorrit because I didn't really consider him much of a hero. Although maybe in another tournament, I might consider him. Thanks!

I think because everyone nominated so many characters for the last three spots, I'll put up a poll to decide the last three. Thank you everyone for the nominations!

  9. Ooooo, I wish I could vote! Now! Maybe later today this silly computer will behave. :P I like the idea of a historical heroine/hero tournament. Kings and queens and explorers...it could be quite fun!

  10. By the way, I believe Laurie's actual name is Theodore Laurence (in fact he is sometimes called Teddy). :)

I had an idea for ANOTHER tournamenet - young heroines! Like Anne Shirley (from the first book), the girls from The Secret Garden and A Little Princess, and other old or historical fictions. But if you don't want to do that, maybe I could. :) (Actually I'd do a 'contest'... it would be a litte different, and I have more 'experience' with contests. I've been to SO many fiddle contest, and played in them...

    Anyways. Just a thought. =)

  11. I like Melody's idea! A young girls' contesst like that would be fun. :) There are so many girls in literature, like in "Secret Garden" and "Little Princess" and "Heidi." :) I love it!

  12. ARTHUR CLENNAM from "Little Dorrit"!!! :-)
And Prince Albert from "The Young Victoria"!!! :-)

My two personal favorites, right now. ;-)

  13. Charity U,
I'll keep the young girl's contest in mind. Margaret Dashwood could also be a contestant!

    Elinor Dashwood,
I've got Arthur Clennam in the original 40 list. I was going to make this tournament just fictional characters, but there seems to be enough interest in a historical tournament, so I'll keep Prince Albert in mind for that. Thanks!

  14. I was thinking Margaret Dashwood would be fun to put in there, too. :) (Even if she isn't exactly the main person, but since it's a Jane Austen book, I think she qualifies. HA) I made a list with a lot of other girls, too. :)
