Period Drama Herione Tournament! Round 1

And it begins... *Cue Olympic Music*

I just added the polls for Round 1. Vote for your favorite in each poll: if you come across a choice that you aren't familiar with but you are with the other choice, you can pick the one that you are familiar with (in fact, I included a couple of characters from period dramas that I haven't seen). Each poll has characters that were randomly put together, but I also made the polls so that no two characters from the same story are competing. This poll will be up for one week. If a poll ends in a tie, the winner will be randomly selected, so I would highly recommend keeping the polls from tying.

On with the polls! Here they are:

Round 1

Poll 1
Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre)
Cynthia Kirkpatrick (Wives and Daughters)

Poll 2

Dinah Morris (Adam Bede)
Mary Smith (Cranford)

Poll 3
Hetta Carbury (The Way We Live Now)
Estella Havisham (Great Expectations)

Poll 4
Jane Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Sophy Hutton (Cranford)

Poll 5

Catherine Earnshaw (Wuthering Heights)
Laura Timmins (Lark Rise to Candleford)

Poll 6

Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)
Jane Fairfax (Emma)

Poll 7
Marianne Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)
Dorcas Lane (Lark Rise to Candleford)

Poll 8
Dorothea Brooke (Middlemarch)
Margaret Hale (North and South)

Poll 9
Harriet Smith (Emma)
Hetty Sorrel (Adam Bede)

Poll 10
Emily Trevelyan (He Knew He Was Right)
Molly Gibson (Wives and Daughters)

Poll 11

Amy Dorrit (Little Dorrit)
Catherine Morland (Northanger Abbey)

Poll 12

Anne Elliot (Persuasion)
Nora Rowley (He Knew He Was Right)

Poll 13

Miss Matty (Cranford)
Mirah Lapidoth (Daniel Deronda)

Poll 14

Emma Woodhouse (Emma)
Eleanor Bold (nee Harding) (The Barchester Chronicles)

Poll 15

Elinor Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility)
Gwendolen Harleth (Daniel Deronda)

There are your choices. Go and vote! You only have one week!

Want to comment on the polls? This is a regular post, so you can comment on this post as you would for any other. What do you think of the choices? Who are you rooting for? Any polls particularly hard?

  1. What great choices! A couple of these ladies were so hard to choose between! I mean how can you choose between such sweet ladies as Jane Bennet and Sophy Hutton? And then there's Amy Dorrit and Catherine Morland! I think I chose Amy but I do love Catherine. You did a really good job pairing up these ladies, this must be have been hard to make sure characters from the same stories weren't going against each other.
Have you thought about doing a hero tournament after this? This is so much fun!

  2. Miss Laurie,
Thank you! I paired the characters ramdomly using a random number generator on the internet (if two characters from the same story ended up together, I switched them with another random pair). Some of them I think are really easy, while others are harder: I still haven't voted in Poll 11 yet: I can't decide between Amy or Catherine. lol
I was thinking about doing a hero tournament. I wanted to see how well this tournament went first. It looks like this will go well, so there might be a hero tournament in the future. :-)

  3. Choosing between Amy Dorrit and Catherine Morland was hard, but I chose Amy. I'm in the middle of watching Little Dorrit right now...and I really admire her. =)

As much as I like Dorcas Lane, I chose Marianne Dashwood...and Jane Fairfax is sweet, but few can compete with Elizabeth Bennet, in my opinion. ;-) Jane and Sophy was kind of hard, but I like P&P so well...and I like Jane...

Looking forward to next week, and keeping track of how people vote! =) Will the winners from this week be in next week's polls?

  4. AND, a hero tournament would be fun as well...;)

  5. This is a pretty neat idea you had! Oh, the poll on Marriane Dashwood Vs. Dorcas Lane wouldn't let me vote on Dorcas (when I did, it put my vote on Marriane). Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that those results may not be accurate...

  6. Melody,
The winners from this week will move onto Round 2 and compete against each other.
I still haven't decided about Amy Dorrit or Catherine Morland. Hopefully I'll come to a decision soon. lol.

  7. Anonymous,
I'll keep that in mind. Thank you. Maybe it'll register in a little bit. If not, I'll keep your vote in mind.

  8. It was such an enjoyment picking between all these characters. It was a little hard too. After all, I admire quite a lot of them. Well, I'll be happily awaiting the next upcoming polls.

  9. I had such fun!!! :) Thanks for coming up with this great idea, Elegance of Fashion. You know, you should almost come up with a real name for yourself...it would probably be quicker to type. If you need ideas, ask me.

I voted in all the polls where I knew the characters and oh, was it fun!

FYI, I'm still having computer problems, which was why I didn't comment yet.
