Tournament: Round 3 and Wild Card Winner

First, I'd like to start with the wild card. The poll has closed and the Wild Card is... Arthur Clennam (Little Dorrit).
And now for Round 3. Here are the polls:

Poll 1
Sir Percy Blakeney (The Scarlet Pimpernel)
John Thornton (North and South)

Poll 2
Colonel Brandon (Sense and Sensibility)
Fitzwilliam Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)

Poll 3
Arthur Clennam (Little Dorrit)
Edward Ferrars (Sense and Sensibility)

Poll 4
George Knightley (Emma)
Gilbert Blythe (Anne of Green Gables)

Poll 5
Henry Tilney (Northanger Abbey)
Captain Frederick Wentworth (Persuasion)

There are the polls! Go out and vote! You only have one week!

  1. I voted Percy, of course. But oh, great, he's up against Thornton. The end, the end. Landslide, anyone? :-) Well, I casted my vote anyhooz. It'll be interesting to see how the Austen heroes get narrowed down.

Can anyone guess who'll be the winner? I've got a very strong idea... :-)

  2. This is the hardest of all the polls so far! Colonel Brandon & Mr. Darcy are tied right now! I'm glad Arthur Clenham is back in the race, he's such a nice guy! But how do you choose between Mr. Tilney and Captain Wentworth!?! That was a tough one! I look forward to seeing how the voting goes! :)

  3. Oh, no! George Knightley versus Gilbert Blythe! :(( Hehe.

  4. 1. Thornton.
    2. Er...Mr Darcy.
    3. NOOOOO!!! I'm glad Arthur Clennam is back...but against Edward? He's not my favorite Jane Austen hero, but he IS a Jane Austen hero, and I like him. Oohhhh. This is a sad day. haha Oh well, Arthur has less votes anyways - I'll go for him.
    4. I like you, Gilbert...but really, you're no Mr Knightley.
    5. Oh no! This poll is awful! I haven't yet read Persuasion or Northanger Abbey... I think Wentworth is a more romantic type, but Henry is funny. I'll have to decide later. :)

  5. AAAAHHHH!!! There were some really hard choices in this round! How do you choose between Percy and John Thornton? My old favorite and one of my new favorites.

Poor Gilbert doesn't stand a chance against Mr. Knightley. I've always liked Gil, but Mr. Knightley has always been my favorite Austen hero, aside from Mr. Tilney.

And speaking of Mr. Tilney, I just hope he lasts since he's pitted against Captain Wentworth! I much prefer Mr. Tilney myself, but I have a feeling it will be a tough decision for many.

Congrats to Arthur Clennam! Too bad I have to vote against him (Edward's another one of my favorites).

Thanks so much for doing this tournament. I can't wait to see who wins! :D

  6. Oh, dear! Poor Sir Percy!:(
    Mr. Thornton is tough competition.

  8. Poor Sir Percy...I love him much more than Mr. Thornton.

Mr. Darcy. Totally. I'm sorry for Brandon, though...

    Edward.

    Knightley...poor Gilbert.

Tilney is over Wentworth? Inconceivable. Or maybe it is conceivable...but it really shouldn't be happening. Oh well.

So far, so fun! It's getting harder though...

  9. Oh, this is so hard!! Percy against Thornton??? Ah, it kills me, but in the end I DO have to vote for Sir Percy...but it was a crazy close one.

And then Colonel Brandon against Mr. Darcy. Well, I like Brandon, but he's no Mr. Darcy. :)

I haven't seen Little Dorrit, so I have to go with Edward..

Mr. Knightley against Gilbert Blythe- Oh, another hard one. But Geroge Knightley IS my favorite Austen hero, so I'll have to go with him.

I don't think it's fair to pit Austen heros against each other!! :( This one is harder than picking between Brandon and Darcy, but I'll go with Henry Tilney.

This is so fun! (and a little heartbreaking....:)

  10. This is the hardest round ever! I like all these heroes (if not all, then most)! So I chose Mr. Thornton over Sir Percy (*sniff*), Mr. Darcy over Colonel Brandon (Mr. Darcy gets 100% of my vote), Edward Ferrars over Arthur. As much as I like Gilbert Blythe, he doesn't stand a chance against Mr. Knightly--who, of course, got my vote. Couldn't really vote between Tilney and Wentworth since I haven't read or watched Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. This was a fun but difficult round.

  11. Another tournament to consider would be bad guys. Vote for the worst. I got the idea from this blog:

    http://ribbonsoflight.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-10-period-drama-villains-2.html

    And another post...

    http://ribbonsoflight.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-10-period-drama-villains-3.html

She only did three, but I'm sure you could come up with more. :) And if you need help, I'm sure that your readers have ideas.

    Just a thought.

  12. Oh, Jemimah? Go for Wentworth. ;)

  13. Charity U,
I was thinking about a Worst Villain tournament. Maybe in the future, I'll organize one. Thanks!

  14. Oh,you put my 2 favorite male characters against each other!

(Kinghtly and Blythe) But I went with Knightly a little better character then Blythe I think!

  15. Haha, I just saw "Little Dorrit" over the weekend, and having Arthur Clennam back in the race made my day! I actually didn't vote for him originally, not having seen the movie, but now...well, he's one of my favorite heroes. This tournament is such fun!

  16. Poor Percy! I really do love John Thornton but I had to vote for Percy - he's possibly my favourite literary hero :) And I had a feeling he'd be falling behind...thought he could do with all the help he could get!

Next it has to be Darcy - I like Colonel Brandon, but I always felt like his character was a little undeveloped :/

Edward is okay - he's nice and I do like him, but I never really was a fan of either of the two heroes in Sense and Sensibility. But I've never seen Little Dorrit, so I had to go for him.

    Mr. Knightley! No contest.

I think I'll go with Mr. Tilney, simply because he's the sort of character I'd probably get along best with in real life :)

Well, that was fun! But difficult at times - anyone else feel like it was a bit of a Sophie's choice, especially the first and last? Okay, so perhaps this isn't so serious, but you get my point! ;)

  17. It's sad...I think Arthur Clennam is behind mostly because not everyone knows about him. :/ But, I do like Edward...it's just...I really like Arthur. :D
I think I need to look into this Sir Percy person, since everyone likes him so well...but he looks rather arrogant in that picture. ha

And I finally decided to vote for Henry Tilney...like Abby, I was thinking I'd like him best in real life, and since we're voting for the person and not the romance story...;-) He's funny and would probably be easy to get along with, from what I know of N.A.

  18. Melody, Sir Percy is a fop, plain and simple. But that's not all...please please please read "The Scarlet Pimpernel." It's SO great. :)

And, more people are learning about Clennam! Like Larkin, who commented above here...she's a real-life friend for me, and she really loved the movie. :) Hopefully (fingers crossed!) I can see the movie before the summer is done. If so...you may be sure I'll post on Austenitis!

Finally, I'm not commenting through my blogger profile like I usually do. It's just because I'm not logged in. I'm the usual Charity U. :)

  19. Yes, yes, you really really MUST read The Scarlet Pimpernel! And watch the 1982 film - it's wonderful :) I have a review on my blog for both if you're interested: http://newly-impassioned-soul.blogspot.com/search/label/The%20Scarlet%20Pimpernel
